About Penny Tree Surgery & Landscaping, Isle of Wight
Tree surgeons and landscapers with strong roots on the Isle of Wight. Owner-run by Bruce Penny, working for homeowners, businesses and local authorities across the Island.
Who we are
Penny Tree Surgery and Landscaping was founded in 2025 by Bruce Penny, a lifelong Islander with over 15 years of experience in tree surgery and landscaping. The company provides a properly qualified, responsive service, with the owner involved on site and a written price agreed before any work begins.
The Penny family has lived and worked on the Isle of Wight for generations. These local roots are why we work exclusively on the Island, and why recommendations and repeat customers account for much of our work.
We operate two small specialist teams. One handles tree surgery and vegetation work. The other handles hard landscaping, groundwork and fencing. Each project is assigned to people who carry out that specialist work regularly, with Bruce directly involved rather than passing the work to a subcontractor.
Island conditions shape how we work. Salt winds and coastal exposure affect tree growth and failure. Conservation areas and Tree Preservation Orders determine what work is permitted. Narrow lanes and restricted access affect project planning. We account for these factors during the assessment and quotation. For commercial and council work, that local knowledge is incorporated into the method statement before work begins.
The people on your job
We are a small, owner-led team. Work is not passed to subcontractors, and the profiles below introduce the specialists responsible for delivery on site.

Director and arborist
Over 15 years in tree surgery and landscaping. NPTC City & Guilds qualified in arboriculture and landscaping, and MEWP certified for safe work at height. He leads every job on site and does the climbing, rigging and sectional dismantling himself. Born and raised on the Isle of Wight.
I take pride in delivering work I can stand by. For me it is about safety, quality and service.
Steve
Lead groundsman
Over 40 years in horticulture, tree work and landscaping, City & Guilds qualified. Steve handles garden restoration, planting schemes and aftercare, and there is not much on the Island he has not seen. A lifetime island resident.
I enjoy bringing gardens back to life. Every job is a new challenge, and I still love it.
Max
Groundworker and landscaper
Over 10 years in groundwork and landscaping, CSCS certified. Max runs the diggers, dumpers and machinery, and lays the solid base that the rest of a job is built on. Grew up on the Island.
I like getting stuck into technical groundwork. Neat, solid results that last.
